Frequently ASKED Questions

We get these questions a lot. Here are our best answers...

EXTERIOR

Yes, if you have areas that are prone to mold or mildew development those areas will be affected at some point. We will use a mold and mildew inhibiting additive to the paint to help prolong a mold free finish.

We primarily use Duration and Emerald Rain Refresh by Sherwin Williams as these provide the best protection and color resilience. Occasionally, we use Sherwin Williams Super Paint for specific applications.

Yes, regardless of whether we are painting trim, siding, or both this is a necessary step for us in surface preparation.

Yes, we have experience and knowledge of the requirements for properly prepping each of these surface types and the specific paints that are formulated to deliver the best result.

Yes. We can have almost any color formulated to a “vinyl safe” paint. We do strongly urge against dark colors as vinyl tends to be significantly hotter than other surfaces thus the finish is more prone to cracking in high heat.

Yes, all paint services that we provide come with a 3 Year Warranty.

Yes, we make sure that all surrounding plants with potential overspray exposure of paint are covered.

You can have your exterior painted in mid summer or mid winter as long as the weather is dry. For the best results you don’t want to paint in temperatures below 35 degree or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Yes, colors like bright reds, blues, yellows, and some bright grays will be more vulnerable to uv rays and will fade faster. Lighter variations of the above mentioned will last longer as well as more natural colors like tans, beiges, and browns.

You should expect a high quality finish prepped properly to last 8-10 years. You can ensure this and possibly even lengthen the time by power washing your home annually.

If the gutters are in good shape and we feel that they can be restored well with pressure washing then it may not be necessary. Once they are painted they are no longer maintenance free. However, in most cases it doesn’t make sense to not paint them because they’re a very small expense in terms of the entire scope of the project.

We have a good deal of experience with layered peeling paint as that is common on older historic homes. We use several methods to remove peeling paint depending on the surface. Generally we sand and scrape in combination with a power paint eater that removes larger areas of peeling paint.

This really depends on the surface type and the goals of our customer. Generally we try to spray even though more preparation is involved. We believe a higher quality finish can be delivered by doing so.

INTERIOR

On most interior projects we always recommend the top 2-3 grades of interior wall paint. This will ensure excellent color retention and durability over time.

We base sheen selection on several factors like the type of room we are painting, are small children present, pets, color choice, light reflection, and your sheen preferences.

No not at all. If you work from home that’s fine with us. We request that pets and small children be absent from the areas that we are painting in for safety reasons and to  avoid accidents.

Yes, we cover the floor and all upholstery and furniture when painting in a room.

We remove all pictures and hanging hardware, dimple the holes, apply drywall compound, sand those areas smooth, and completely sand the wall prior to painting.

Only under certain circumstances. Primer is a much thiner coating and is unnecessary for the paint to adhere if the wall was previously painted. We like to use the finish paint to cover because that ensures a more durable finish with greater color depth.

This depends on the type of color that we are coverings but we always apply at least two for color vibrance and finish durability.

No. We specifically use only paints that have very low to zero VOC’s. Lower quality less expensive paints generally have much high VOC’s with a strong smell.

Most new FAQ’s: Yes. If you have stubborn stains or yellowing we can address that as well so that they don’t return.

Yes. This is part of our surface preparation process.

We use a combination of application types based on the whether the house is occupied or unoccupied and if it has been painted before. Generally we use a brush and roll technique for walls and brush for trim. If the home is unoccupied, then we spray the trim.
